What Even Is Hero Wars: Dominion Era?

Hero Wars: Dominion Era is a free-to-play RPG where you collect heroes, build teams, level them up, unlock abilities, and fight through a huge variety of PvE and PvP content. The game launched years ago as a browser game but has grown massively and is now a full mobile and PC title with a dedicated competitive scene.

The core gameplay loop is: fight → earn resources → upgrade heroes → fight harder content → repeat. But under that simple loop is a surprisingly deep game with a LOT of layers — titan management, pets, glyphs, guild activities, arena ladders, outland bosses, and more.

Don't panic. You don't need to understand all of that on day one. This guide will walk you through what matters when.

First Week Priorities

Your first week in Hero Wars is all about not making rookie mistakes that will cost you weeks of progress later. Here's exactly what you should be doing:

1. Follow the Campaign

The main campaign is your bread and butter early on. It unlocks game modes, provides hero shards, and gives you a ton of resources. Push it as fast as you can. Don't worry about being underpowered — if you're hitting a wall, just upgrade your heroes and come back.

Each campaign chapter also unlocks new features. You want to get to Chapter 3-4 as quickly as possible because that's when Guild and Arena features open up — two of the most important resource generators in the game.

2. Join a Guild — Immediately

This cannot be overstated. Joining a guild is one of the highest-priority things you can do in the first 24 hours. Guilds provide:

  • Daily gold donations — guild members donate gold to each other which is a huge early boost
  • Guild War participation — wins give you Guild Coins to spend in the Guild shop on premium items
  • Dungeon access — a co-op dungeon that gives excellent gear rewards
  • Hydra Battles — guild boss fights that drop high-value items

Even if you join a small casual guild at first, the daily gold donations alone are worth thousands of coins per day. Don't play solo.

3. Choose Your Core Heroes Wisely

Your first major mistake-prone decision is which heroes to invest in. The game showers you with hero shards early on, but many early heroes are weak or niche. Here are the best choices for beginners:

Astaroth — This tank is arguably the best starting hero in the game. He has a resurrection ability that can completely swing battles, he's a required hero for multiple Guild activities, and he's relevant all the way into end-game. If you do nothing else, max out Astaroth.

Thea — A healer that basically keeps your whole team alive. Her passive healing and team energy regen makes her a staple in almost every viable early-mid game team.

Keira — One of the strongest physical damage dealers. Her scaling is excellent and she shreds through campaign content. Pair her with Astaroth and Thea and you have a core that carries you far.

Lars & Krista — This brother-sister duo has synergy abilities that trigger when they're both on the same team. Together they deal insane AoE magical damage. They're incredible for campaign and reasonably strong in PvP.

Celeste — A support hero that provides both healing and damage buffing. She's consistently one of the top support picks regardless of the meta.

Focus on 5 heroes maximum at first. Spreading resources thin across 10 heroes is the #1 beginner mistake. You want 5 strong heroes, not 10 mediocre ones.

Understanding the Resource Economy

Hero Wars has a LOT of currencies. Here's a quick breakdown of what everything does:

Gold

The most common currency, used for upgrading equipment on heroes. You'll always need more gold than you have. Sources: Campaign, Arena, Daily Quests, Guild Donations, and just collecting from your buildings in town.

Tip: Always keep the Outpost running for passive gold generation. Upgrade it whenever you can.

Emeralds

The premium currency. Can be used to summon heroes, buy chests, refresh stamina, and more. Don't spend emeralds on stamina refreshes early on — that's a trap. Instead spend them on the Hero Chest (10x summons when you have 1000+ emeralds) or save them for limited-time offers on heroes you actually need.

Soul Stones / Hero Shards

Currency used to summon and upgrade heroes to higher star levels. Different heroes require different shards. Most come from Campaign chapters on Hard mode or from various shops.

Emerald Chests vs Gold Chests

Gold Chests mostly give equipment and some hero shards — decent for gearing up. Emerald Chests give better hero shards but cost premium currency. Use Emerald Chests when you have a target hero you're trying to build.

Stamina

The energy system that limits how many Campaign battles you can run per day. You regenerate stamina over time, and you get bonus stamina from leveling up. Always spend your stamina daily — letting it cap out is wasted progress.

Hero Stars and Levels — How Progression Works

Each hero has two main progression axes: Star Level and Character Level.

Star Level (1★ to 6★) is increased by collecting the hero's specific Soul Stones. This is the long-term grind. Going from 5★ to 6★ requires hundreds of soul stones and takes weeks or months. Each star level dramatically increases your hero's base stats and unlocks higher tiers of equipment.

Character Level is increased by spending EXP Potions (which is why the free 25 EXP Potions from the promo code are so valuable). Higher character level increases base stats across the board. Your heroes can't exceed your own account level, so level up your account by doing all daily activities.

Glyphs are a deeper progression layer unlocked later. Each hero has 5 glyphs that boost specific stats. Upgrading glyphs requires Glyph materials that come from the Dungeon and specific campaign chapters.

Skins are cosmetic but also provide stat bonuses. Some skins give significant combat power — they're not purely cosmetic. Unlock skins through campaign events and skin tokens.

Equipment — Gear Up Your Heroes

Every hero has 6 equipment slots. Filling these requires crafting items from components. Components drop from Campaign levels on Normal and Hard modes.

The quality tiers (White → Green → Blue → Violet → Orange) dramatically change how much power the equipment provides. Orange gear on a 5-star hero can double their effective combat power.

Key tip: Pick one hero to fully gear first. Don't spread equipment crafting across all 5 heroes simultaneously. Your strongest hero geared to Orange is far more effective than 5 heroes at Blue.

This is where the gold you're generating constantly goes. Equipment upgrades are expensive — especially at the higher tiers.

Daily Activities Checklist

Every day in Hero Wars you should be doing the following. This takes about 20-30 minutes and maximizes your resource income:

Spend all Stamina on Campaign (Normal + Hard modes) ✅ Complete Daily Quests — easy tasks that give Emeralds and other goodies ✅ Arena battles — 5 free battles daily, plus any you can purchase ✅ Grand Arena — separate from regular Arena, also gives valuable currency ✅ Guild Quest contributionsDungeon — available 2x per week, don't miss it ✅ Hydra Battle — when your guild is raiding, hit the boss ✅ Collect Outpost/Town goldClaim daily login bonusMerchant shop — check the rotating shop for good deals

If you do all of these consistently, you'll progress faster than 80% of players who play casually and miss daily activities.

Team Composition Fundamentals

Hero Wars isn't just about individual hero strength — team synergy matters enormously. Here are the core archetypes:

Physical DPS Team

Focused on physical attackers who benefit from armor-reducing support. Works well: Astaroth (tank) + Thea (healer) + Keira (DPS) + Jhu (DPS) + Nebula or Celeste (support)

Magic Burst Team

Relies on huge magical damage spikes. Works well: Astaroth (tank) + Thea (healer) + Lars & Krista (magic DPS duo) + Celeste (support)

Control Team

Uses stuns, silences, and CC to shut down enemies. Tricky to build but devastating: Astaroth (tank) + Andvari (tank/CC) + Orion (magic DPS) + Elmir (DPS) + Martha (healer/CC)

For pure beginners, the Physical or Magic Burst team is easiest to build and most forgiving.

Titans — The Second Team You Need

Titans are a separate 'team' of giant beings that fight in their own parallel to your heroes. You unlock the Titan feature fairly early (around Chapter 3 Campaign) and they require their own resources to level.

Each Titan belongs to an element (Earth, Water, Fire, Light, Dark) and they have their own soul stone system, artifacts, and progression. Don't neglect Titans — they're required for Guild content and unlocking the full map exploration.

As a beginner, focus on leveling whatever Titans you can get shards for easily. The specific meta matters more at high levels — early game any reasonably leveled titan is fine.

Avoiding the Most Common Beginner Mistakes

Mistake 1: Spending emeralds on stamina. Stamina refreshes feel useful but they're incredibly inefficient. Save emeralds for hero summons.

Mistake 2: Leveling too many heroes. Pick 5 and stick with them. Resources are too scarce to spread thin.

Mistake 3: Ignoring the Guild. Seriously. Join a guild. The passive benefits are massive.

Mistake 4: Not using the promo code. Use JayPlaysGames right now if you haven't. Free 255K gold, 1K emeralds, and 3★ Polaris.

Mistake 5: Skipping Daily Quests. They take 5 minutes and give you Emeralds every single day. Never skip them.

Mistake 6: Upgrading equipment randomly. Prioritize your main carry. Full gear on one hero beats partial gear on five.

How to Get Polaris (Your Free 3-Star Hero)

Polaris is a solid magical DPS hero who synergizes well with other magic-based teams. As a 3-star hero from the promo code, she's already stronger than most heroes you'll earn in your first few days.

She deals good AoE damage and has a slow/freeze utility that works well in both PvE and PvP. She's not the #1 meta pick at the highest levels, but for your early to mid game she absolutely earns a spot on your team.

To make the most of her, focus her EXP Potions (you also got 25 free ones with the code) and slot her into a magic-focused team composition.

Wrapping Up: Your Roadmap for the First Month

Week 1: Use promo code, join a guild, push Campaign chapters, build your core 5, do all dailies.

Week 2: Hit Chapter 5+ Campaign, start farming Hard mode for hero shards, max out Arena participation, begin Titan leveling.

Week 3-4: Focus gearing your main carry to at least Blue/Violet tier, participate in Guild Wars, start collecting materials for Glyph upgrades.

Hero Wars is a long game. The players who progress the fastest aren't necessarily the biggest spenders — they're the ones who log in consistently, do their dailies, and make smart resource decisions.

Good luck out there. And don't forget that promo code — JayPlaysGames — it's the single biggest free boost you'll get in this game.
