Clan Boss for Beginners — How to Survive and Start Earning Rewards
You load in. The boss hits once. Half your team is dead. It hits again. You're done. You collect your rewards and realise you barely made a dent, and you have no idea what you're doing wrong.
That's most people's first week with Clan Boss. Here's how to fix it.
What Clan Boss Actually Is
Clan Boss is a daily fight that the whole clan shares. Everyone attacks the same boss independently — you fight it on your own with your own team — but all the damage your clan deals together fills a shared chest. Hit a damage threshold, the chest unlocks, everyone gets rewards. The chest tiers scale with how much damage you collectively put in.
You get two free keys per day. Use them both. The rewards include gems, shards, gear, and XP brews, and they're some of the most consistent daily resources in the game. Don't skip it even when you're losing.
Difficulties run from Easy up through Normal, Hard, Brutal, Nightmare, and Ultra-Nightmare. You unlock higher tiers as you clear the ones below. The boss gets more health and hits harder at each step, but the reward chests also get significantly better.
Why You're Dying
The boss has a passive that charges up every time you hit him. Once it's full, he unleashes a massive AoE attack that hits every champion on your team. If your team can't absorb or heal through it, you get wiped. Most beginners are running raw attack-focused teams with no sustain, which is exactly the wrong approach.
At the start, the goal is not to deal maximum damage. The goal is to stay alive as long as possible. A team that survives ten rounds of Clan Boss will always deal more total damage than a team that nukes hard and dies in four. Survival is the strategy.
Pick the lowest difficulty you can consistently survive and work from there. There's no shame in running Easy. Getting clean runs on Easy beats dying repeatedly on Hard every time.
The Roles You Need
Building a Clan Boss team that actually works comes down to covering four jobs. You don't need the meta picks — you need these effects on your team in some combination.
- A poisoner. Poison is a damage-over-time debuff. The Clan Boss has an enormous health pool, and DoTs scale directly against that. Champions who can apply multiple poison stacks are your primary source of damage early on, often contributing more than any direct hit.
- A defence-down debuffer. This debuff reduces the boss's defence, which amplifies everything your team does. It makes every hit, every poison tick, every direct attack deal noticeably more. If you don't have defence-down, you're leaving a lot of damage on the table.
- An attack-down debuffer. This is your main survival tool. When the boss has attack-down on him, his hits deal significantly less damage — including that big AoE charge. Keeping attack-down up consistently is often the difference between surviving fifteen rounds and dying in six.
- A healer or shielder. Someone who can top up or protect your team between the boss's big hits. A healer who fires every round is ideal. A shielder who puts barriers on your team before the AoE lands also works.
If you can cover all four of those roles, you have a functional Clan Boss team. It doesn't matter if the champions are obscure. Cover the effects, not the names.
Gear Sets That Help Early
Before you have ideal gear, there are two sets worth prioritising for Clan Boss.
Lifesteal is the most useful early set for DPS champions. Your champion heals a percentage of the damage they deal. When your poisoner is also self-sustaining through Lifesteal, you need less dedicated healing elsewhere. It's a forgiving set that covers for weaker support options.
Speed matters because more speed means more turns, which means more hits and more chances to refresh your debuffs. A faster team keeps attack-down up more consistently and lands more poison stacks per round.
Counterattack is a buff that makes your champions hit back every time the boss attacks them. For a poisoner or damage dealer, that effectively doubles their output in a round where the boss swings. It's powerful but usually comes later once you have gear to support it.
Start with Lifesteal on your damage dealers and Speed on your debuffers. That's a solid foundation.
Manual vs Auto — and Why It Matters
When you're starting out, fight Clan Boss manually. Every time.
I know auto is convenient. But auto in early Clan Boss throws away your attempts. The AI doesn't prioritise keeping debuffs up, doesn't react when attack-down drops, and will absolutely burn your skills at the wrong moment. You'll die rounds earlier than you should and wonder why.
Fighting manually, you can react. If attack-down drops, you refresh it immediately. If your healer's skill is ready before the big AoE lands, you use it. You're making decisions the AI simply won't make correctly at this stage.
Once you have a team that reliably clears a difficulty without you doing anything clever, then switch to auto. That's the signal that the team composition and gear are doing the work. Until that point, manual only.

Working Toward a One-Key Clear
The goal, eventually, is a team that kills a Clan Boss difficulty using a single key. That means you use one key, the boss dies, you collect the maximum chest for that tier. Then you do it again with your second key. Two clean kills per day, same team, no thinking required.
One-key clears are the foundation everything else builds on. Once you can one-key a difficulty reliably, that's when you push up a tier and repeat the process.
Beyond that, players start talking about speed-tuned teams — where every champion's speed is carefully set so the team moves in a specific order every single round, keeping debuffs up perfectly and maximising poison uptime. It's powerful and worth learning eventually, but don't worry about it yet. Get a reliable clear first, then look into tuning.
The short version: survive a lower difficulty, lock down your debuffs, get a clean clear, then push up.
The Honest Path Forward
Pick a difficulty where your team doesn't die in the first three rounds. If that's Easy, it's Easy. Get comfortable there, then look at what you're missing. Add a poisoner if you don't have one. Make sure attack-down and defence-down are covered. Add healing or Lifesteal to survive the boss's AoE.
Once you're clearing reliably with one key, move up a tier and repeat. It's slow progress, but it's progress you'll actually keep — and the daily rewards compound fast once you're farming a consistent difficulty.
Play Raid for free and don't skip Clan Boss just because it looks overwhelming. Two keys a day adds up faster than you'd think.
