Jay's Take - Version 1.4, August 2026

Is Arknights: Endfield Worth Playing in 2026?

I was skeptical about another gacha action RPG in a post-Genshin world, but Endfield earned its spot. The real-time combat is genuinely fun - switching between Operators mid-fight and chaining abilities feels like a proper action game, not a mobile auto-battler dressed up. Hypergryph clearly learned from the original Arknights and built something that stands on its own.

The AIC factory system is the real surprise. Setting up automated production lines for gear and materials is a satisfying loop that ties the exploration and combat together - you explore to find blueprints, fight to gather materials, and the factory turns it all into upgrades. It's the kind of system that makes logging in daily feel rewarding rather than obligatory.

Version 1.4 "Homecoming" is the strongest patch yet. The new Wuling Showdown endgame mode gives veteran players something to chew on, and the Arcane and Liino banners are both worth pulling. The open world of Talos-II still feels a bit sparse in early chapters, but the later regions are genuinely beautiful and rewarding to explore.

Bottom line: if you like action RPGs, the Arknights universe, or gacha games with actual gameplay depth, Endfield is worth your time. It's free, it's cross-platform, and version 1.4 is the best time to start before more power creep arrives.

Jay's Tips

Before You Land on Talos-II

6 things that will save you hours of frustration in version 1.4

1

Focus on one main DPS Operator early. Spreading resources across multiple Operators is the biggest beginner mistake - one maxed carry beats three half-built ones.

2

Build your AIC factory as soon as it unlocks. Automated production is the backbone of gearing your team - the earlier you set up production lines, the faster you progress.

3

Exploit elemental weaknesses. Matching your Operator's element to enemy weaknesses dramatically increases damage - check enemy type before every fight.

4

Save headhunting currency for rate-up banners. Limited Operators like Arcane and Liino only appear on their banners - don't waste pulls on standard banners if you want them.

5

Explore every region thoroughly. Many upgrade materials and AIC blueprints are hidden off the main path - rushing the story means missing permanent power upgrades.

6

Use cross-save. Endfield supports cross-progression across PC, PS5, and mobile. Link your account immediately so you can play on whatever device is convenient.

Arknights: Endfield FAQ

What is Arknights: Endfield?

Arknights: Endfield is a real-time action RPG developed by Hypergryph and published globally by Gryphline. It's a spin-off of the hit mobile game Arknights, set on the frontier planet Talos-II. Players lead Endfield Industries in exploring the planet, fighting the Blight, building automated factories (AIC), and collecting Operators through a gacha system. It launched on 22 January 2026 for PC, PS5, Android, and iOS.

Is Arknights: Endfield free to play?

Yes - Arknights: Endfield is free to play on all platforms. The base game, story, and all gameplay modes are available without spending. The gacha (headhunting) system for collecting Operators is optional, and free players earn currency through gameplay. A Season Pass and cosmetic shop exist but don't gate core content.

How is Endfield different from the original Arknights?

The original Arknights is a tower-defense strategy game with turn-based deployment. Endfield is a full real-time action RPG with direct character control, an open world to explore, and a base-building system (AIC). The combat is action-based rather than strategic, but the universe, lore, and Operator collection carry over. If you liked Arknights' world but wanted more hands-on gameplay, Endfield is built for you.

What platforms is Arknights: Endfield available on?

Arknights: Endfield is available on PC (Windows via Epic Games Store and official launcher), PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS. The game supports cross-save progression across all platforms, so you can start on PC and continue on mobile or PS5 with the same account.

Who is the best Operator for beginners in Endfield?

Arcane is the best starting DPS Operator in version 1.4 - she's the featured banner character and scales well into endgame content. If you don't pull Arcane, Gilberta is a reliable greatsword DPS that works in most team comps. For support, Mi Fu (the Hexeress) is essential for harder content because her debuffs make a huge difference in boss fights.

Is Arknights: Endfield worth playing in 2026?

Yes - version 1.4 'Homecoming' is the biggest content update yet, with new regions, new Operators (Arcane and Liino), and the Wuling Showdown endgame mode. The player base is active, the meta is still evolving, and it's the best time to start before more power creep arrives. Jay's verdict: if you like action RPGs with gacha collection and any interest in the Arknights universe, it's worth your time.
